President Addresses Convocation Ceremony at NDU

President Mamnoon Hussain has said that national unity is need of the hour and called for building national cohesion to counter all the challenges confronting the country.

The President was addressing the 12th Convocation ceremony of National Defence University (NDU) here in Islamabad on Monday.

The President urged the nation to extend all out support to the government and the armed forces in fight against extremism and terrorism. The President commended the armed forces for its great sacrifices for the nation and emphasized that Operation Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists and extremists would continue till its logical conclusion. The President stated that Pakistan, as a nation, has experienced great challenges in recent years adding that despite enormity of these challenges the nation and its armed forces have stood together and rendered invaluable sacrifices for the motherland.

The President said that certain elements were trying to create hurdles in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. The President stated that India’s objections to CPEC project are unjustifiable. The President urged not to overreact over recent unreasonable statements against Pakistan by India and called upon the nation to stand united to foil any ulterior designs against CPEC. He said that CPEC has the potential to transform the economics of the region particularly of Pakistan for the better.

The President stated that today Pakistan stands at a historical juncture, where a democratically elected Government is making all out efforts to trigger the process of reform and recovery, economic revival and stabilize internal security. The people of Pakistan wish to collectively realize the Pakistani dream of peace and prosperity, added the President. The President also called for making rigorous and concerted efforts to root out the curse of corruption from the country.

The President congratulated the graduating course members and expressed confidence that the knowledge and understanding which the graduating members have acquired at NDU would go a long way in facilitating them in their future assignments. The course participants hailed from different countries including China, USA, Australia, Egypt, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Lebanon, Malaysia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Jordan, Bangladesh and other countries.

The President also appreciated NDU for hosting quality strategic and security studies programs not only for the armed forces officers and civil bureaucracy of Pakistan but also for senior officers from friendly countries.
