President Mamnoon Hussain has said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Qatar and wished to enhance cooperation in all mutually beneficial areas. The President stated that close and brotherly relations between the two countries provide excellent foundation for consolidating bilateral partnerships in diverse fields.
President Mamnoon Hussain said this while in a meeting with Emir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday.
Welcoming the visiting dignitary on his first official visit to Pakistan as Emir of Qatar and members of his delegation the President emphasized that the visit will go a long way in further cementing bilateral ties.
The President stated that Pakistan would welcome investment by Qatar in its ongoing and new energy and infrastructure projects expressing hope that Qatar would co-finance Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower project.
The President underlined that trade between the two countries required attention adding that both countries possessed the potential to further expand the bilateral trade volume for the mutual benefits. The President expressed hope that Qatar would support early conclusion of Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The President stated that Pakistan also desires to increase defence cooperation with Qatar.
The President highlighted that Pakistani community in Qatar serves as a strong bond between the peoples of two countries. The President also congratulated Emir of Qatar on hosting FIFA 2022 World Cup and offered to provide manpower to Qatar for the upcoming mega projects that are being undertaken in connection with FIFA 2022 World Cup.
