President Mamnoon Hussain has directed the heads of the public sector federally chartered universities to focus on research noting that this sector has been neglected over the last many decades. “Research is an important factor in the progress of nations”, remarked the President.
The President said this while addressing the Heads of the public sector federally chartered universities at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on Tuesday.
The President stated that adoption of Urdu as the official language is a correct decision. He said that initially there may be some difficulties but other nations in the world have progressed after imparting education in their own languages. The President hoped that the universities would play an effective role in this regard.
The President said that education is not fully beneficial without character building of the younger generation. The President remarked that sports also play an important role in character building and directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to organize inter-university sports tournaments. The President noted with satisfaction that the universities are performing creditably despite limited resources.
Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed and Vice Chancellors of public sector federally chartered universities also expressed their views on the occasion.
