BISP improving lives of poor, vulnerable: President

resident Mamnoon Hussain has said that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) is beneficial for improving the lives of poor and vulnerable people adding that it should be further expanded.

The President said this while addressing a ceremony of BISP here in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The President said that BISP has taken an important step for promotion of education so that children of families receiving financial assistance under BISP support programme could be provided with education. This is a huge investment by the government which would have far reaching and positive results, remarked the President.

The President suggested that such ceremonies should also be organized in provinces which would produce positive results. He further suggested that BISP in coordination with polio teams should launch a pictorial campaign to raise awareness among people about the crippling disease of polio. He also called for raising awareness among people about the importance of cleanliness.

The President noted with satisfaction that BISP is working day and night to ensure transparency in its affairs and to enhance the utility of the programme. The President noted with pleasure that BISP has not only become the biggest social welfare programme in South Asia but is also one of the largest and effective programmes in the world.

The President expressed his good wishes for the administration, workers and leadership of BISP. On the occasion, Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon also addressed the ceremony.
